One hundred twenty seven Byzantine coins, one for each Byzantine emperor, plus the few usurpers who struck coins are presented in this online exhibition. All the objects have been selected from the Dumbarton Oaks Byzantine Coin Collection in order to present the viewer with a glimpse into one of the largest Byzantine coin collections in the world.

At Dumbarton Oaks, Robin Cormack was a Visiting Fellow (1972–1973) and a Visiting Scholar (2011) in the Byzantine Studies Program.

Oral History Interview with Ercüment Atabay, undertaken by Günder Varinlioğlu on May 19, 2011, at Mr. Atabay’s apartment in Istanbul. Mr. Atabay was associated with people and projects in Istanbul that were sponsored by Dumbarton Oaks. The interview was conducted in Turkish, transcribed, and translated into English. English conventions are used in the translation. For example, the English honorifics “Mr.” and “Mrs.” that accompany the Turkish names are an approximation of the Turkish honorifics “Hanım” and “Bey.”

Oral History Interview with Musja Kazhdan (accompanied by translator Misha Kazhdan, grandson of Alexander and Musja Kazhdan), undertaken by Alice-Mary Talbot at the home of Misha Kazhdan on April 18, 2010. Musja Kazhdan was the wife of Alexander Kazhdan, Senior Research Associate in Byzantine Studies at Dumbarton Oaks (1979–1997). Between 1983 and 1991, Alexander Kazhdan was the editor of the Oxford Dictionary of Byzantium (New York: Oxford University Press, 1991).
