Oral History Interview with Ercument Atabay, undertaken by Gunder Varinlioglu on May 19, 2011, at Mr. Atabay’s apartment in Istanbul. Mr. Atabay was associated with people and projects in Istanbul that were sponsored by Dumbarton Oaks. The interview was conducted in Turkish, transcribed, and translated into English. English conventions are used in the translation. For example, the English honorifics “Mr.” and “Mrs.” that accompany the Turkish names are an approximation of the Turkish honorifics “Hanım” and “Bey.”

At Dumbarton Oaks, Angela Hero was co-editor with John Thomas and with assistance from Giles Constable of Byzantine Monastic Foundation Documents: A Complete Translation of the Surviving Founders’ Typika and Testaments (Washington, D.C.: Dumbarton Oaks, 2000); she was involved with this project between 1982 and 1993. Helen Evans was a Summer Fellow in the Byzantine Studies Program at Dumbarton Oaks (1982).

Oral History Interview with Ioli Kalavrezou, undertaken by James N. Carder and Margaret Mullett at the Guest Cottage (Fellows Building) at Dumbarton Oaks on December 6, 2012. At Dumbarton Oaks, Ioli Kalavrezou was a Junior Fellow in Byzantine Studies for two years (1974–1975 and spring 1976 and fall 1977). She has been a member of the Board of Senior Fellows of the Byzantine Studies Program since the fall of 1989, and was the Harvard Professor in Residence in the fall of 2012.
