At Dumbarton Oaks, Herb Kessler was an assistant to Paul Underwood (1963), a Junior Fellow (1964–1965), and a Senior Fellow (1980–1986) of Byzantine Studies. With Kurt Weitzmann, Herb Kessler directed the Cotton Genesis Project (1979–1982).

Ihor Ševčenko

Oral History Interview with Ihor Ševčenko (1922–2009), undertaken by Alice-Mary Talbot in the Dumbarton Oaks Guest House (Fellows Building) on May 6, 2008. The interview is followed by an addendum that Ihor Ševčenko recorded in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in June of 2008. Although Ševčenko twice addresses Alice-Mary Talbot in his remarks in this addendum, she did not conduct this second interview. At Dumbarton Oaks, Ihor Ševčenko was a Visiting Fellow of Byzantine Studies (1949–1950), a member of the Board of Scholars of Byzantine Studies (1965–1972), a member of the Research Staff of Byzantine Studies (1965–1974), Professor of Byzantine History and Literature (1965–2008; not in residence beginning in 1979), a member of the Dumbarton Oaks Administrative Committee (1966–1967); Director of Byzantine Studies (1966–1967); a member of the faculty and research staff of Byzantine Studies (1974–1979); a Senior Fellow of Byzantine Studies (1976–1979 and 1981–1983, ex-officio), and co-director of the Corpus of Dated Greek Inscriptions (1978–1982). He was also the Dumbarton Oaks Professor of Byzantine History and Literature at Harvard University (1981–1992) and Dumbarton Oaks Professor of Byzantine History and Literature Emeritus, Harvard University (1992–2009). He died in 2009.

Inge Gaberman

At Dumbarton Oaks, Ioli Kalavrezou was a Junior Fellow of Byzantine Studies (1974–1975 and spring 1976 and fall 1977). She has been a Senior Fellow of Byzantine Studies (since the fall of 1989) and was the Harvard Professor in Residence (fall of 2012). She has been the Dumbarton Oaks Professor of Byzantine Art History in the Harvard University Department of History of Art and Architecture (1989–present).

Irène J. Underwood

Mrs. Underwood was married to Paul Atkins Underwood (1902–1968). At Dumbarton Oaks, Paul Underwood was a Junior Fellow in Byzantine Studies (1943–1946), a resident Assistant Professor of Byzantine Art and Archaeology (1946–1951), Associate Professor of Byzantine Art and Archaeology (1951–1960), and Professor of Byzantine Art and Archaeology (1960–1968). Paul Underwood was the Field Director of the Byzantine Institute (1951–1961). Mrs. Underwood died in 2011.
