Public Transportation

We encourage you to use public transportation when coming to visit Dumbarton Oaks. There are a number of bus and metro options. Walking to the Museum or Gardens along historic tree-lined streets or through the heart of Georgetown is a particularly nice way to start off a visit to the neighborhood.

By Bus

Metrobus routes 31, 32, 36, D1, D2, D3, D6, and G2 come within two–three blocks of the Garden Gate and Museum entrances. The Georgetown Circulator also has a stop at Wisconsin and 34th Streets, less than two blocks away from the Museum entrance.

By Metro

From the Dupont Circle Metro station (Red Line)

Walking (about 1 mile): From the Circle, walk northwest on Massachusetts Avenue. Turn left onto Q Street (crossing the Dumbarton Bridge) and continue for several blocks. Turn right onto 31st Street, and walk up the hill until you reach R Street. You will reach the Garden Gate entrance at R and 31st Streets; the Museum entrance is located around the corner, at 1703 32nd Street.

Taking the bus: The D1, D2, D3, D6, and G2 buses have stops near the Dupont Circle station.

From the Foggy Bottom-GWU Metro station (Blue/Orange Lines)

Walking (about 1.5 miles): Take Pennsylvania Avenue west to Wisconsin Avenue; take a right to go north on Wisconsin Avenue until you reach R Street. Take a right to go east on R Street and proceed to either entrance.

Taking the bus: The 31, 32, and 36 buses have stops near the Foggy Bottom-GWU station.

From the Rosslyn Metro station (Blue/Orange Lines)

Walking (about 1.75 miles): From the Metro station, travel north on Moore Street, then turn right onto US 29 for a short distance. Turn left onto Lynn Street/US 29 and continue over the Key Bridge, crossing into the District. Turn right to go east on M Street, then turn left onto Wisconsin Avenue. Go north on Wisconsin Avenue, up the hill, and take a right onto R Street, going east to reach either entrance.

Taking the bus: The 38B bus will take visitors from Rosslyn to Georgetown; the 31, 32, or 36 buses have stops near the 38B stops in Georgetown.

Biking

We are very pleased to offer you secure bicycle racks at the entrances to both the Museum and Gardens. If you do not own a bicycle but would like to use one, you may consider joining Capital Bikeshare. Capital Bikeshare has stations throughout the District: the closest station to Dumbarton Oaks is at Wisconsin Ave NW & 34th St NW (just two blocks from the Museum).

Parking

Unfortunately we do not have parking facilities for visitors. Two-hour street parking is available. There is no time limit on Sunday, but the District of Columbia is efficient about ticketing over the two-hour limit in this zone on weekdays and Saturdays. Additional parking information can be found on the Georgetown tourism website.
