Louise du Pont Crowninshield

Crowninshield, Louise du Pont, 1877-1958

Louise Evelina DuPont Crowninshield was born August 3, 1877 at Winterthur in New Castle County, Delaware. She was the great granddaughter of Éleuthère Irénée du Pont, the founder of the E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company. Her father was Henry A. du Pont (1838-1926) and her mother was Pauline Fost du Pont (1849-1902). Louise married Francis Boardman Crowninshield in 1900. Throughout her adult life she was involved in charitable organizations and interested in horticulture and preservation. She was one of the charter members of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and was actively involved in the preservation movement in New England and throughout the United States. She died July 11, 1958 in New Castle County, Delaware and is buried at Du Pont de Nemours Cemetery in Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware.
