Description

In Beatrix Farrand's Plant Book for Dumbarton Oaks (page 67-68), Beatrix Farrand suggested that autumn plantings for the Fountain Terrace be: "Chrysanthemums in various shades, with bronze, deep brown, and maroon."

On verso: Typewritten label: "Fountain Terrace, flowers in north east, corner." Handwritten in pencil: "F[oun]t[ai]n Terrace." Stamped in blue ink: "17" , "This is a Kodachrome Print, Made by Eastman Kodak Company, T.M. Regis. U.S. Pat. Off. Week of August 5, 1957, 22 2". In brown ink: "47." In faded ink: "Ftn. Terrace."

View is of the northwest corner of the Fountain Terrace. Because of the type of flowers planted and growth of those flowers and surrounding foliage, it is possible the photograph was taken between 1956-1957.
