From Clearing to Cataloging: The Corpus of Tunisian Mosaics

This exhibit highlights the Margaret Alexander Collection at Dumbarton Oaks, and was developed to coincide with the 2012 Byzantine Studies symposium, “Rome Re-Imagined: Byzantine and Early Islamic Africa, c. 500–800.”

The Margaret Alexander Collection is comprised of research notes, publication materials, correspondence, photographs, and slides that relate to the fieldwork and publication associated with the Corpus des Mosaïques de Tunisie (CMT), or Corpus of Tunisian Mosaics. While the majority of this material is related to the CMT project, ICFA also houses Alexander’s dissertation notes, research materials related to projects undertaken during her Dumbarton Oaks Junior Fellowship, and some personal correspondence.  The collection, donated to Dumbarton Oaks in December 1998, is available to researchers by appointment.

All archival documents and photographs are from the Margaret Alexander Collection unless noted otherwise.
