Notes

Contents: for an overview of contents see Pinakes (in the internet resources), for a more detailed description see Stevenson’s catalogue p. 61-62 (in the internet resources (Google Books) or in the bibliography) although even this list is not exhaustive.

Pinakes has a large and useful bibliography and also notes that the ms. is the autograph of Nicephorus Gregoras, for more information on this, please see the article by A. Biedl listed in the bibliography.

The ms. is described in a Vatican catalogue because the ms. was lost at Wittenberg at some point before 1623 and returned to the Heidelberg library by the Vatican in 1816.  See Richard, p. 357 who has some items of bibliography dealing with these events.

The end of the ms. is mutilated and there is double (and sometimes even triple) foliation making the last folio f.141/131 v.

HEI.1.1 and HEI.1.2 microfilms are copies of the entire ms. HEI.1.3 consists of six copies of f. 37v.
