Rare Book Collection

The Rare Book Collection contains more than 10,000 volumes, prints, drawings, photographs, and blueprints. The collections began with the Blisses' purchases in the mid-twentieth century.

Use of materials held in the Rare Book Collection requires an appointment made in advance. The shelving location of all materials held in the rare book room is clearly indicated in the HOLLIS record. Searching HOLLIS in advance of arrival is recommended. We cannot guarantee that same-day requests for use can be honored.

The Rare Book Collection at Dumbarton Oaks is accessible by appointment, during the hours of 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. and 1:30–4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. To schedule an appointment, please contact Rare Book Collection staff at rarebooks@doaks.org or 202-339-6462.

The Rare Book Collection will be closed on the following dates in 2012 and 2013: December 24 - 26, December 31 - January 1, July 4, September 2.
