The Gulf Coast region of Mexico saw the early development of the Olmec culture. Gallery II features Olmec ritual implements, human figures, and other carvings in jade and semi-precious stone. The later Veracruz culture is represented by heavy stone yokes, hachas and palmas associated with the Mesoamerican ballgame. Objects currently on display in Gallery II are part of Dumbarton Oaks' permanent collection.
