    This miniature shows one of the steps during the preparation of the deceased for burial. Here, two women wrap the body of Kniaz Vladimir with swaddling cloth. According to Byzantine custom, washing and preparation of the body for funerals were done by women over 60 years old. As seen in this miniature, the ritual was performed by women in Rus’ as well.
