Tomb of St. Theodora
Hagia Theodora, Arta, south aisle, after 1270
Photo: Natalia Teteriatnikov
This luxurious tomb belongs to Theodora, wife of the despot of Epiros, Michael II. The entrance to the church is through the narthex, close to Theodoras tomb. Significantly, the tomb is placed between the narthex wall and the south aisle of the church, and thus is easily accessible to the faithful from both places. It is decorated with sculptural reliefs. Theodoras portrait is carved on the west side of the tomb facing the church narthex.
