Scattered Evidence: Excavating Antioch-on-the-Orontes

April 7, 2010 – October 10, 2010

ANTIOCH

Scattered Evidence: Excavating Antioch-on-the-Orontes exhibits together for the first time the full inventory of objects that were allotted to Dumbarton Oaks from the field work at Antioch and its vicinity. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Woods Bliss had supported the archaeological work during the 1930s and received a selection of finds from the excavations in recognition of their contributions. In addition to the Antioch mosaics on permanent display, these objects are a cross section of the discoveries made at Antioch revealing a wide range of aspects of daily life, from monumental architecture and public inscriptions to delicate silver and glass ware, as well as examples of gold and bronze jewelry.
