Botany of Empire

Botanical Highlights from the Rare Book Collection at Dumbarton Oaks: The Long Eighteenth Century
Botany of Empire

This online exhibit is a small sample of holdings from our Rare Book Collection chosen to complement the fall 2013 Symposium, “The Botany of Empire in the Long Eighteenth Century.” The Rare Book Collection at Dumbarton Oaks includes important books on royal gardens, exploration, and the transportation and introduction of plants. The Collection will also present an on-site exhibition of some of these items, complementing the themes and subjects of the Symposium.

Please enjoy browsing among these selections from our Rare Book Collection!
