Please note that Sunday concerts begin at 7 p.m., and Monday concerts begin at 8 p.m.

Cecile Licad, piano

October 19 & 20, 2014

Cecile Licad

Called a “pianist’s pianist” by The New Yorker, Cecile Licad’s artistry is a blend of daring musical instinct and superb training. She has played internationally with the most prestigious orchestras and as a recitalist. A Washington Post reviewer once wrote, “every sound she made was beautiful, every note and phrase the result of intellect warmed by emotion.” Her recital includes music by Chopin, McDowell, Gottschalk, Fauré, and Chaminade.

Minguet Quartett with Andreas Klein, piano

November 2 & 3, 2014

Minguet Quartett

A rarely performed string quartet by the musical genius and pianist Glenn Gould, a string quartet by Mozart, a virtuoso piano work by Busoni, and a keyboard concerto by J. S. Bach, comprise this unusual program offered by the award-winning Minguet Quartett, in collaboration with the distinguished pianist Andreas Klein.

Kitka

December 7 & 8, 2014

Kitka

Few things evoke the magic of the winter holidays as much as the transcendent splendor of the human voice. The women’s vocal arts ensemble Kitka has researched and discovered a treasure-trove of seasonal music from a wide variety of Eastern European ethnic and spiritual traditions. Wintersongs includes rousing Slavic folk carols, meditative Eastern Orthodox sacred choral works, pre-Christian Solstice incantations, ancient Georgian alilos (Alleluias), and heartwarming Yiddish and Sephardic songs for Hanukkah.

Gut Reaction

January 25 & 26, 2015

With “a wonderful mix of passion and style” (Boston Musical Intelligencer), Gut Reaction brings together five brilliant performers to explore the best of the Baroque on period instruments—with gut strings of course! In the ensemble’s Washington, D.C., debut, they offer works by Biber, Telemann, J. S. Bach, Vivaldi, and Platti.

Los Angeles Guitar Quartet (LAGQ)

February 8 & 9, 2015

LAGQ

For three decades on the concert stage, the charismatic, Grammy Award-winning LAGQ has continually set the standard for expression and virtuosity among guitar ensembles. Their critically acclaimed transcriptions of concert masterworks provide a fresh look at the music of the past, while their interpretations of works from the contemporary and world-music realms continually break new ground. This is reflected in their program of music from Renaissance Spain to pieces by Ralph Towner, Pat Metheny, and Chet Atkins.

Dominique Labelle, soprano

March 15 & 16, 2015

Dominique Labelle

Dominique Labelle, whose voice has been called “angelic,” “silvery,” and “vibrant,” could easily lay claim to the title “diva.” Instead, she simply calls herself a musician, and takes greatest pride not in her rave reviews, but in her work with colleagues, and in her probing explorations of the repertoire from the Baroque to the contemporary. Her recital includes songs by Handel, Gluck, Grétry, Saint-Saëns, Ravel, Barber, Wyner, and Hahn.

A Far Cry

April 12 & 13, 2015

A Far Cry

A Far Cry stands at the forefront of an exciting new generation in classical music. The tightly knit collective of 17 young professional musicians—the Criers—has become a Friends of Music favorite, and their hundreds of self-conducted performances have been embraced enthusiastically at home and abroad. The Criers’ program spans the ages with works by Corelli, Mozart, Janáček, Ljova, and Caroline Shaw.
