Stephens & Catherwood Revisited: Maya Ruins and the Passage of Time

On view in the Orientation and Rare Book Galleries and in an online exhibit.

Please note: The Museum will be closed to the public from May 23 through the end of 2016.

We regret that we cannot accommodate scheduled tours during this period.

However, the gardens will be open and both introductory group tours and booked private tours will be offered.

We are excited about the reopening of the museum galleries with state-of-the-art lighting and upgraded exhibits.

Please check this space for further announcements closer to that time.

Mission

Through an active research and exhibitions program, the museum strives to advance knowledge, stimulate interest and engage with our collections by inspiring visitors aesthetically, visually, and intellectually. We connect scholars with art and art scholarship with the public.

The Collection and Galleries

Our galleries feature specialized collections of Byzantine and Pre-Columbian art, European masterpieces on view in the historic Music Room, and a rotating program of Special Exhibitions.

Mildred and Robert Woods Bliss initiated these collections in the first half of the twentieth century and provided the vision for future acquisitions after giving Dumbarton Oaks to Harvard University.

Admission and Tours

Admission to the museum is free. When a Special Exhibition is on view, docent-led tours take place every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 3:00 p.m. Please see here for more information.

Guided tours of the museum and gardens can be arranged during morning hours for groups of 10 to 30 people.

Please note: From Monday, May 23 through end of 2016, guided tours of the museum will not be offered. During this time, except for the month of August, afternoon guided tours of the gardens will continue. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Informal tours are not allowed during public museum hours.
