Resources for Syriac Studies

Materials and programs supporting scholars of Syriac Studies as part of Dumbarton Oaks' broader mission of supporting Byzantine scholarship.

Resources for Syriac Studies

From 2012–2015, under the direction of Jack Tannous, Scott Johnson, and Morgan Reed, Dumbarton Oaks hosted a comprehensive bibliography of open-access materials related to the study of Syriac. That resource can now be found here.

Fellowships

Dumbarton Oaks provides several fellowships for Byzantine scholars which may be of interest to scholars specializing in Syriac-related topics. For more information, see our fellowship page.

Syriac Summer School

In conjunction with the Hill Museum & Manuscript Library (HMML), Dumbarton Oaks offers an intensive four-week course in introductory Syriac and intermediate Armenian. More information can be found here.

Publications

Dumbarton Oaks is also proud to publish works related to Syriac studies as part of our mission to support research related to the broader Byzantine world. We recently introduced Graphai, a series for texts and translations of material concerning the Byzantine world in any language, including Syriac.

Articles on topics related to Syriac may be submitted to Dumbarton Oaks Papers; proposals for book-length studies or translations of Syriac texts should be directed here.
