Wagons-Lits/Cook World Travel Service

Belgium, 1927–present (Distributor)

Wagons-Lits/Cook World Travel Service formed in 1927 when British travel company Thomas Cook & Son was bought by the Belgian railcar manufacturer Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits, operator of the Orient Express. This was part of an effort on the part of Wagons-Lits to focus more on travel agency, especially after losing eastern European markets after the Second World War. The company provided tours and packaged holidays around the world, combining tourism with transportation services.
