Walter Severn

London, England (Artist)

Walter Severn (1830–1904), was a British watercolor artist, born at Frascati, near Rome. He entered the civil service in 1852, and was for thirty-three years an officer in the education department. Meanwhile he took a lively interest in varied branches of art. His avocation was the painting of landscapes in the watercolor medium. When the London Old Water-colour Society rejected the membership application of his brother Arthur, a landscape painter, Walter Severn formed the Dudley Gallery Art Society. The society held annual exhibitions.
