Fig. 5: Map of the 2007–2008 operations made with Dumbarton Oaks’ funds: in red are the structural elements of the substructure, including the main staircase and six tiers of the west façade (surrounded by the green contour line of the preserved mound, with the upper and lower floor limits to the west). In blue are the 80 test pits dug to define the north, east and south façades and the central trench to locate the consecration offering. In black are the reconstructed contour of the substructure foundation, the axis through the middle of the east and west staircase, and the cross lines indicating the geometrical centres of the pyramid. B stands for burial, C for charcoal and carboniferous earth layer, V for whole vessel. Right and bottom squares indicated the main grid and grid coordinates. The squares are 2x2m.
