Elisina Tyler to Mildred Barnes Bliss, May 19, 1929

May 19th 1929Sunday.

Dearest Mildred,

There is a dealer on the Ile de la Cité in whose knowledge and probity I have confidence, and as I met him accidentally to-day, I asked him if he knew of any table to suit your requirements.

He has promised to look for one, or for two that could be used as one. The length you require is very unusual, and will be hard to get.

He has ‘en vue’“In view.” 6 perfectly lovely chairs, says he, very early Louis XIV, that are usually called Louis XIII, with high backs and wavy arms; the old Tapisserie en gros point is on them. They are a set, and for this reason excessively dear, 200000 francs for the six.

He will also look for two Louis XIII sofas.

He has a very fine Aubusson Louis XIV carpet, he says, one of the finest he has seen, deep blue ground—a light yellow border—as fine, he says, as the best at Versailles or Fontainebleau, Frs. 350.000. I am to go and see it on Tuesday, the chairs will be visible on Friday.

It would be a great joy to me if I could be of use to you or Robert, and any trouble I may take in that good cause will be a labour of love for me.

Let me know if the chairs would be useful—If the carpet would be useful, and your view of the prices. Several dealers are after the chairs, so an early answer would be wise, if you consider having them kept for you to see on your return here. Just a line please, to say when you expect to come back.

What a perfect joy these three days with you and Robert have been to us!

My very fond love,

Yours ever,
Elisina
.
