Royall Tyler to Mildred Barnes Bliss, May 30, 1928

Genève
League of Nations
30.V.28Wednesday.

I have your wire about the cross,The Blisses did not acquire this cross in 1928 but in 1937. See also letters of September 12, 1928 [2], and November 11, 1931. dearest Mildred, and as soon as I get the papers from GoldschmidtJulius Falk Goldschmidt (1882–1964), an owner of the jewelry and antiquities firm J. and S. Goldschmidt in Frankfurt. I’ll cable you a reply.

I feel sure the cross is one on which Rosenberg sent me an article of his two or three months ago.Marc Rosenberg, “Ein goldenes Pektoralkreuz,” Pantheon 1 (1928): 151–55. I know the object, and so do you. It was at Daguerre’s a year ago. It is certainly genuine, and Rosenberg’s right about its period, VIth–VIIth, but I don’t consider it de premier ordre.“Of first order.” It would be worth getting if it came cheap, but hardly after Rosenberg has written it up and the Frankfurt GoldschmidtJulius Falk Goldschmidt (1882–1964), an owner of the jewelry and antiquities firm J. and S. Goldschmidt in Frankfurt. has got it.

I don’t know yet what my plans for this summer will be. Perhaps Greece again.

In great haste, dearest Mildred.

Love to you both.

Yrs ever
R. T.
