Dear Royall,

None know better than you how time flies by. It hardly seems possible that I have not acknowledged your last three letters, which have lain in my unfinished dossier for far too long. The first was written on the 4th of December, the day we sailed; another on the 20th, and still a third on the 16th of January.

In the latter letter you said you would let us know definitely your plans for sailing, which I am sure you will do, but I want to have a line reach you before you embark which your offspringWilliam Royall Tyler. tells me will be the first week in April.

We eagerly await your arrival and are keen to have you see the collection at Dumbarton Oaks as it is now.

When you are here I shall have to talk to you about the matter raised in your letter of December 20 concerning the loan made to Elisina. I find in some back accounts that you had credited me with that sum but which resulted in leaving a balance in my favour. I cannot find any subsequent account from you to that one, which was dated January 1941.

By this same mail I shall endeavour to send a letter to Princess JuritzkyWife of Antonin Juritzky. in the course of which I shall refer again to the two glypticsThese glyptics have not been identified. which she and her husbandAntonin Juritzky. have on deposit in London. I should enormously like to have a look at them over here, but I fear that she would not let them come over unless there was definite commitment on your part and there has never been any intimation that they wanted to dispose of them. In previous letters I have written her of our great interest in seeing them in the hopes that they would come across with an offer to sell them, as I would much rather be in the position of having them offer them than to ask if they would sell them. I shall give her your office telephone number, telling her that you are shortly sailing and asking her to give you news about herself and her husband.

Mildred and I keep going at just as fast a clip as ever, and just at present we feel pretty apprehensive over the international outlook, so please hurry and get yourself to this side of the Atlantic.

Our best love to you and Elisina,

Yours ever,

(RWB)
