Dear Robert.

Very many thanks for your letter of Feb. 3, with enclosed copy of yours of the same date to David Bruce.David Kirkpatrick Este Bruce (1898–1977), an American diplomat and politician who served as the U.S. ambassador to France between 1949 and 1952. As it happens, David had already written, on his own account, to the Sec State. Bill, who saw the letter, tells me that it couldn’t have been better.

You are an angel to take so much trouble on my behalf, and I’m most grateful.

I suppose the appointments to the Near East AgencyThe United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), which provides assistance and protection to Palestinian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and the occupied Palestinian territory. This agency was established on December 8, 1949. will be made soon now. Indeed, they must be if the body is to take over on April 1 (auspicious day!) as recommended by Clapp.Gordon R. Clapp (1906–1963), an American authority on public administration and chairman of the Tennessee Valley Administration (1946–1954). Clapp headed the United Nations Economic Survey Mission for the Middle East, established on August 23, 1949, on the subject of Palestinian refugees.

With fond love to Mildred and yourself.

P. S. I enclose a letter from BustrosElias (Elie) Bustros, an antiquities dealer in Beirut, Lebanon. with photos of another Christian glass,Probably BZ.1950.34. of a sky blue hue (according to B.). You’ll see if you & DO are interested.

I have one or two things maturing—not yet at a stage where I can speak about them without fear of the old warning about counting chickens . . .
