Louis Metman (1862–1943)

Marie Louis Metman was born in Arras, France, on June 27, 1862. He was instrumental in the founding of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, where he became an assistant curator in 1892 and curator in 1899. Metman authored catalogues of the museum’s collections and collaborated on exhibitions of decorative arts of various periods, including the Byzantine exhibition of 1931. He also was a noted collector of Japanese art. He died in Paris on April 13, 1943.
