Simancas

Simancas is a town of central Spain located in the province of Valladolid; it is situated approximately eight miles southwest of the provincial capital Valladolid. Simancas is the location of the Archivo General del Reino, the national archives of Spain, which were brought there by order of Philip II in 1563. Diego de Ayala organized the archives, which occupy forty-six rooms and are arranged in more than eighty thousand bundles (with approximately thirty-three million documents), including important private as well as state papers.
