Royall Tyler to Robert Woods Bliss, September 27, 1947

My dear Robert,

Just a line to tell you that

a) I carefully wound your watch every morning, while it was in my hands, and

b) That having arrived yesterday evening from Paris, I took the watch today to Universal.Universal Watch (now Universal Genève SA), a Geneva luxury watch company founded in 1894. They want about one month for a good cleaning and overhauling, and I left it with them on that basis, taking a receipt for it, in your name.

If it so happened that you were to come to Switzerland a month or so from now, without me (but I don’t suppose there’s any chance of that), you’d let me know and I’d mail the receipt to you, so that you might collect the watch from Mlle Moret, at the Universal place, 43 r. du Rhone.

Bill was in Paris with us for three days; he was pleased with his trip, and not too tired, although looking forward very much to boarding his boat; he sailed on the 24th Sept.

I think the best address I can give you, in case you want to advise me of any changes in your time-table, would be c/o Morgans, PL. Vendôme, Paris. My present office in Paris is only a provisional one, and I don’t yet know where the Int. BankThe International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), established in 1944, became operational in 1946 as the original institution of the World Bank Group. It was a cooperative organization of 188 member nations that originally promoted sustainable development and reconstruction to nations devastated by the Second World War. is going to be located permanently, on this side.

Much love to both of you, dearest Robert—and Mildred
