Notes

Contents: Aetius: Iatricorum Liber and Theophilos Protospatharios: Scholia on Hippocrates’ Aphorisms.

ff. 1-183 verso. Aetius.

f.1: a very faded image with parts missing from the page.

ff. 184r-287v: Theophilus

f. 180v: incipit: "ἀλλ’ οἱ διὰ τὴν τούτων θερμότητα διψῶντες ἐκπλέουσί τε πλέον...."
f. 183v: desinit: "τέλος Ἀετίου."
Foliation begins properly on the 4th folio from the start (f. 184r).  The numbering is rather confusing as many leaves have both a folio and a page number.  Some pages are missing pagination altogether.  Thurn notes that portions of the text have become illegible due to mold damage and subsequent repairs.

f. 184r: incipit: “τὰ διακαῆ καὶ ζέουσαν ἔχοντα τὴν ὕλην καὶ τὴν θερμασίαν...” (the beginning is missing)

A note in Latin by a later hand on 184r refers to a Venetian manuscript  Venet. 1549.8 (Latina) and another Greek ms.  Incidentally, the Marciana Library has a copy of Theophilos Protospatharios’ work(gr. app. V. 009 (coll. 1017)) written by the same scribe as this ms., Δημήτριος  Ἄγγελος.

f. 265r (rather than 266r) bears the inscription Δημητρίου  Ἰατροῦ ἡ Βίβλος.

f. 265v: blank.

f. 287v. end of text.  desinit: “προσάγω πάλιν εὐχαριστίαν.”

Inscription in Latin reads: Huius Libri Claud. Mitalerius Dominus est. C. Mitalerius delphinus Viennensis.

Pp. 238-9 are missing from the film and have been added to the end.

For Theophilus Protospatharius (also known as, or confused with, Philotheus) cf. Bonon. 3632 (BOL.1.2 and WEST.BOL.1.2) and Bonon. 3636 (WEST.BOL.1.3).

Dating: Pinakes dates the ms. to the 16th c. while Thurn puts it earlier in the 14th or 15th c.
