This film documents the conservation and restoration work carried out by the Byzantine Institute at Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, Turkey. It illustrates a close-up view of the apse mosaic of the Virgin and Christ child, as well as the fieldworkers tracing the mosaics under the supervision of Thomas Whittemore. It also contains an image of the fieldwork tools used during conservation and restoration.
