In May of 1923, Whittemore accompanied scholars from The American School of Classical Studies at Athens on a cruise through the Greek isles. During the voyage, he and friend George D. Pratt traveled to several monasteries on Mount Athos, in order to deliver food and supplies to impoverished Russian and Bulgarian monks following the Russian Revolution. In addition to those images documenting the relief mission, this gallery contains photographs taken at various sites in Greece during the cruise. For more information, see Who Was Thomas Whittemore?
