Commentary

The two Latin inscriptions are carved in different styles and with slightly different spelling, but both give the name Eustathius. The obverse inscription contains a mark after the final u, which may indicate a final , giving the nominative (indicating Eustathius son of Eustathius?), or indicate a καὶ, thus reading Eustathius and Eustathius. It's additionally possible that the seal is merely meant to read Eustathius on both sides, and that this mark is being here overintrepreted. Because any other interpretations would be overly speculative, the latter option is chosen here, and the seal is being read simply as Eustathius, with some reservations.
