Archangel standing frontally. No visible border.

Reverse

Inscription of which parts of three lines remain. Border of dots.

... [ἐπὶ] τ(ῶν) οἰκια[κῶν (καὶ) ἀ]ναγραφ(εῖ) [Χ]αλδίας

Translation

... ἐπὶ τῶν οἰκιακῶν καὶ ἀναγραφεῖ Χαλδίας.

... epi ton oikeiakon and anagrapheus of Chaldia.

Commentary

The owner’s name was never imprinted on the lead. The owner of the present seal held an “imperial” title (such as protospatharios, spatharokandidatos, spatharios, etc.) and was inscribed in the group of the officials constituting the honorary guard of the palace of the Lausiakos, called oikeiakoi (see N. Oikonomides, in TM 12 [1994] 486-488).
