Commentary
It is very difficult to date this specimen and its two parallels (cited in this entry). The patriarchal cross decorated with tendrils suggests an early date, but given that it has a border of dots (as opposed to a wreath border) the possibility remains that the seal, done in a simple and archaising manner, was struck much later, perhaps in the twelfth or thirteenth century.
