St Theodore Tiron ("the recruit") standing, holding a spear in his right hand and a shield in his left. On either side, an inscription. Left: Ο|Α|Γ|Ι|Ο|Σ. On the right: ΘΕ|ΔΡΟ|ΟΤΗ|Ρ|Ν : ὁ ἅγιος Θε[ό]δωρο[ς] ὁ τήρων. Line border.

Reverse

Inscription of six lines, a cross above and a decoration below. Line border.

Translation

Ἅγιε Θεόδωρε βοήθει μοι τῷ σῷ δούλῳ Θεοδώρῳ τῷ Εἰρηνικῷ.

St. Theodore, give your aid to me, your servant Theodore Eirenikos.

Commentary

The owner of this seal may well have been the Patriarch Theodore Eirenikos who held the office in Nicaea during the Latin occupation of Constantinople; this seal will have been issued sometime before he assumed office in 1214.
