Lord, help your servant Theodoulos, bishop of Palaia Polis. Amen.

Commentary

There were two bishoprics named Palaiopolis in Byzantine times: the first, a suffragan of Ephesos in Asia, is identified with Balayanbolu on the left bank of the Kaystros river; the second, also called Ἀλέους or Ἀλεεροῦ, a suffragan of Perge/Sylaion of Pamphylia, is sought close to the river Lysis. See Laurent, Corpus V/1, 147; RE 18, 2448-49.
