Obverse

Bust of St. Theodore holding a spear in his right hand and a shield in his left hand. Inscription in two columns: |θ|ε|ο-δ|ω|ρ : Ὁ ἅ(γιος) Θεόδωρ(ος). Remains of a circular inscription at right. Border of dots.

[Κύριε βοήθει τῷ σῷ] δούλ(ῳ).

Reverse

Inscription of five lines. Border of dots.

Translation

Κύριε βοήθει τῷ σῷ δούλῳ Μιχαὴλ μητροπολίτῃ Εὐχαΐτων.

Lord, help your servant Michael, metropolitan of Euchaita.

Commentary

Laurent was inclined to assign ownership of this specimen to a correspondent of metropolitan Leo of Synnada (Darrouzès, Épistoliers, 185) and to date the seal to the first decade of the eleventh century, in any case before 1028 when Michael received the title of synkellos (Skylitzes, 375).
