Commentary
The date of the seal is supported by sigillographic and numismatic parallels (Zacos-Veglery, no. 285; Grierson, Catalogue III/1, pl. 22). This seal confirms the fact that Theophilos' first son and co-emperor, Constantine, died before the indictional year 831/2 (cf. Grierson, Catalogue III/1, 407).
