Guided Tours

Learn more about the museum and gardens and join a docent-led tour. We offer both walk-in tours and prebooked tours for groups.

Please note: The gardens are closed until March 15, 2018.

Guided tours are not offered during the month of August. If you have any questions, please contact tours@doaks.org or call 202-339-6409.

Walk-In Tours

Architecture Tour—The 60-minute tour introduces visitors to a selection of buildings on Dumbarton Oaks’ campus. Offered at 1:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Saturday of each month. This tour is limited to 15 people.

Museum Highlights—The 60-minute tour introduces visitors to selected Byzantine, Pre-Columbian, European, and Asian artworks in the museum’s permanent collection. This tour is offered at 1:00 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, and is limited to 15 people.

Prebooked Group Tours

Prebooked docent-led tours are available for groups of 10 to 30 people. These tours are offered at 11:30 on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays and require at least four weeks’ notice. 

Prebooked tours for educational institutions are free. For all other groups, there is a fee of $10 per person ($100 nonrefundable deposit).

Byzantine Collection—The 60-minute tour focuses on works from the Byzantine Collection, which includes ecclesiastical, imperial, and secular objects from the Byzantine Empire (330–1453).

Pre-Columbian Collection—The 60-minute tour features works from the ancient cultures of Latin America, including the Olmec, Maya, Moche, Chavin, and Nasca.
