Grade:                        57, exempt

Hours:                        Full-time, hybrid, 35 hours per week



The Manager, Financial Operations provides leadership and management oversight for the operations of the financial services functions, including general ledger accounting, internal control review, compliance, financial reporting, payroll, accounts payable, cash management, and procurement. Oversees monthly, quarterly and year end close in compliance with University policy.  Provides guidance on fiscal matters and recommends and implements methods to improve and maximize efficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise Staff Accountant and Financial Assistant.
  • Manage accounts payable and review data to ensure compliance with policy and coding.
  • Manage and review payroll to ensure compliance with university policy and federal regulations.
  • Assure that accounting records are maintained in accordance with accounting policies, the chart of accounts, and related accounting principles and practices, and that subordinate ledgers reconcile with the general ledger.
  • Interface with senior management, responding to requests for financial data, financial studies, and reports, to resolve reporting and compliance issues.
  • Oversee compliance with University policies and procedures and legal rules and regulations.
  • In collaboration with Director of Finance, create policies to ensure departmental compliance and to streamline processes.
  • Provide input into long-term strategic plans.
  • Serve as the liaison with the University in relevant areas.
  • Review, evaluate, and document internal controls to ensure that assets are adequately safeguarded.
  • Ensure financial data is correctly loaded into the University general ledger.
  • Lead the annual budget development and forecasting processes.
  • Oversee the accounting period close process and maintain month end close schedule.
  • Supervise, coach, and evaluate staff using proven and effective management techniques and within guidelines of policies and procedures; provide training and development opportunities for staff when appropriate.
  • Monitor and reconcile fixed asset module on monthly basis.
  • Oversee all union related policies and assure timely implementation of process.
  • Monitor donation and gifts and make timely transfer to University.
  • Other special projects and related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise payroll and finance positions, including payroll and benefits coordinator and financial assistant.


Basic qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience.

Additional qualifications:

  • MBA or Master’s degree in relevant field.
  • Supervisory Experience.
  • Financial database experience.
  • Experience with ADP system.
  • Experience with Oracle preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, advanced excel skills.
  • Knowledge of advanced financial operations principles.
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills, and a commitment to transparency and to serving others in a respectful manner.
