Hours: Part-time, 14 hours per week between 9am-5pm Monday to Friday; schedule to be determined with supervisor
Hourly Rate: $16.00/hour

Summary

Dumbarton Oaks seeks a Museum Assistant to work closely with the Collections Manager and Registrar on duties related to data analysis, integrated pest management and other administrative tasks that support the Museum’s curatorial goals. This is a great opportunity for a museum studies graduate student or early-career museum professional to gain experience in a collaborative and innovative museum setting with an active exhibition and research program.
Dumbarton Oaks is a Harvard University research institute, library, museum, and garden located in Washington, DC. The institution is the legacy of Robert and Mildred Bliss, collectors of art and patrons of learning in the humanities. The museum houses world-class collections of Byzantine, Pre-Columbian, and Renaissance art.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Take readings from data loggers; record and analyze data; make graphs; and follow through with Facilities to ensure good climate control for the collections
• Accompany pest inspection technician on weekly checks; record and analyze findings to ensure the safety of Dumbarton Oaks collections
• Oversee cleaning of object storage areas by Dumbarton Oaks Facilities staff
• Update curatorial and loans calendar to facilitate exhibition planning for the curatorial team
• Process image requests and solicit resulting publications for Museum archives
• Help oversee the installation and deinstallation of historic furniture in the Music Room
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

The eligible candidate should have attention to detail and an understanding of best practices for museum collections and be proficient in integrated pest management practices, a team player, and a quick learner. Previous experience with museum collections is required. Experience with Basecamp and EmbARK (or similar platforms) is highly preferred.
