Elisa Galardi is a PhD student in History of Art at the University of Pennsylvania. She holds a master’s degree in medieval art from the Pantheon-Sorbonne University, in Paris, and a master’s in Byzantine art from the Courtauld Institute of Art, in London. For her master’s, Galardi has worked on a Byzantine ivory casket and on wall paintings and mosaics in middle and late Byzantine churches. Her PhD project focuses on relief icons from the middle and late Byzantine period. She is interested in the place of these objects in devotional practices and in their relation to theological thoughts. During her studies in Paris, Galardi did an internship as research assistant at the World Heritage Center.
