Byzantine Coins and Seals Summer Program

Irini Karra is an archaeologist-curator at the Acropolis Museum in Athens. She holds a BA in archaeology and history of art from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and an MA in archaeology of the eastern Mediterranean from the University of the Aegean, Rhodes. She has participated in several archaeological field projects in Greece, and worked for ten years at the excavation on the Makrygiannis plot in Athens, where she was responsible for the recording of pottery groups and coins. She participated in the preparation of the exhibition of the Acropolis Museum and in the creation of the museum’s new portal and digital database. Her research interests include the coinage of Roman and Byzantine periods and the archaeology of Athens in late antiquity.
