Plant Humanities Faculty Resident

Leah Sobsey is an artist and assistant professor of photography at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Sobsey’s photo-based work explores the natural world through archives and taxonomies with an experimental and materials-based approach to the medium of photography. Using historical, scientific, and artistic lenses, she explores environmental and ecological issues surrounding climate change and species loss. With a specialty in 19th-century photographic processes, she is interested in creating a dialog between art and science, pushing the boundaries of the photographic medium, and exploring the alchemy and poetry present in the process. She exhibits in galleries, public spaces, and museums.
