Stephanie Caruso

Postdoctoral Fellow in Byzantine Art and Archaeology, Image Collections and Fieldwork Archives

Stephanie Caruso received her PhD in art history and archaeology in 2019 from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, from which she also holds an MA. She completed her BA in art history at the University of Toronto. Her dissertation, “Redirecting Gazes: The Design and Reception of a Late Antique Pictorial Motif,” which is currently being prepared for publication, considers questions of aesthetics and materiality of late antique domestic interiors. She has worked as an archaeologist at the excavations of Aphrodisias (Turkey), and at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Most recently, she was the Stavros Niarchos Fellow in the Department of Ancient Greece and Rome at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, where she worked on the development of the museum’s first permanent gallery of Byzantine art.
