“Material Culture and “Lived” Christianity in Late Antiquity: Personal Appearance”

Vladimir Ivanovici

Accademia di Architettura Mendrisio, Byzantine Studies Summer Fellow

Analyzing the material culture of personal adornment to investigate how individuals expressed allegiance to Christ in late antiquity, I seek a more complex image of “lived” Christianity than the one described by the Church Fathers.

Vladimir Ivanovici studied ancient history and archaeology at the University of Bucharest and at the Freie Universität Berlin. He holds doctorates in ancient history and archaeology (2011) and art history (2014). Vladimir was collaborator at the Université de Fribourg (2015–16) and postdoctoral fellow at the Bibliotheca Hertziana–Max Planck Institut für Kunstgeschichte Rom (2015–17). He is currently postdoctoral researcher at the Center of Early Medieval Studies, Brno and lecturer at the Accademia di architettura di Mendrisio.
