Director of Facilities

Alan Dirican

Alan Dirican leads the Facilities Department, which consists of engineering and maintenance of the buildings and their architecture, custodial services, events setup and breakdown, food operations, and mail services. He oversees capital planning and project management for the 16.5-acre urban campus and represents the institution in neighborhood and regulatory commissions and agencies. As the Director of Facilities since 2013, Dirican has overseen and managed over twenty capital projects.

Dirican has a BS in mechanical engineering and an MBA in management. He is a Certified Facility Manager, holds an HVAC Master License, and 1st Grade Stationary Engineering License. He served 18 years at the Baltimore Museum of Art prior to his appointment at Dumbarton Oaks, first as Director of Facilities and Capital Project, and then as Deputy Director for Operations and Capital Planning.

The recipient of International Association of Museum Facility Administrators (IAMFA) George Preston Award in 2011, Dirican has served as an officer on the IAMFA executive board since 2010 and is currently treasurer. He is also an active member of the International Association of Facility Managers and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers.
