Postgraduate Plant Humanities Fellow

Julia Fine received her AB from Harvard in history and literature, where she studied the food history of the British Empire. She recently completed her MPhil in modern South Asian studies from University of Cambridge, where she was a George Kingsley Roth and Cambridge Trust Scholar. Her MPhil dissertation detailed the environmental history of salt production in colonial Bengal. Prior to serving as a postgraduate fellow, Fine worked at the Folger Shakespeare Library as the Project Coordinator of their Mellon-funded “Before ‘Farm to Table’: Early Modern Foodways and Cultures” project and at Dumbarton Oaks as a Humanities Fellow. Her scholarly work has been recognized by the World History Association, the Oxford Food Symposium, the American Folklore Society, and other professional groups.
