Dumbarton Oaks is delighted to welcome Sharmila Sen in our 2018–2019 Dumbarton Oaks Humanities Talks.

Sen is the author of Not Quite Not White (Penguin, 2018) and Executive Editor-at-Large at Harvard University Press where her portfolio of acquisitions includes a diverse array of print and digital products for domestic and international markets. She received her AB from Harvard and her PhD from Yale in English literature. Prior to her appointment at the Press, she was an assistant professor in the Harvard English department and taught courses on the literatures and cultures of Africa, the Caribbean, South Asia, and the British Empire.

The purpose of the Humanities Talks is to help early-career humanists imagine and plan for the many opportunities available to them in the professional worlds of higher education, libraries, museums, publishing, and cultural nonprofits. The series brings to Dumbarton Oaks distinguished speakers from a wide range of careers anchored in humanistic skills, to talk about the varied and often winding paths that led them where they are today and to share the values and experiences that helped them forge a career in the humanities. The talks are open to Dumbarton Oaks fellows, staff, and—where space permits—the broader DC community.
