Join guest curator Samuel Shapiro as he discusses how the narratives of twentieth-century art contained within the collection diverge from canonical art historical narratives, and how the Blisses turned to contemporary artists to articulate the history through which they were living.

Samuel Shapiro is a PhD candidate in the Department of Art and Archaeology at Princeton University. A student of modern and contemporary art, his research explores relationships between artists and art museums in the United States in the late twentieth century. Currently serving as a Curatorial Research Assistant at the Princeton University Art Museum, Shapiro has previously worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and Dumbarton Oaks.
