Celebrate the opening of Dumbarton Oaks’ spring special exhibition, Written in Knots: Undeciphered Accounts of Andean Life, with a curatorial presentation, reception, and after-hours access to the galleries. Following an introduction by Jan Ziolkowski, director of Dumbarton Oaks, Written in Knots co-curators Juan Antonio Murro and Dr. Jeffrey C. Splitstoser will offer attendees an in-depth, behind-the-scenes look at the exhibition’s unique contents and design. Meet the co-curators in the galleries and then join us for a reception on the Music Room Terrace featuring beer, wine, and light fare.

Written in Knots: Undeciphered Accounts of Andean Life is the first exhibition to bring together examples of Wari, Inka, and Colonial khipu. Less than a dozen complete Wari khipu are known to exist in museum collections, and three will be on display at Dumbarton Oaks.
